Learning ShapesToddler Books
Here are some great books for teaching toddlers about shapes.
We’ve covered teaching toddlers how to use the potty and learning colors. Now, we’re going to look at books that teach small children how to identify shapes. First, there’s Brown Rabbit's Shape Book (ISBN-10: 0753452553) by Alan Baker, author of White Rabbit's Color Book. In this book, Brown Rabbit discovers shapes with balloons. Our favorite dog, Spot, also has a book about shapes: Spot Looks at Shapes (ISBN-10: 0399213503) by Eric Hill. Toddlers learn to identify shapes and to pair like shapes in Eric Carle’s recently published My Very First Book of Shapes (ISBN-10: 014138204X). There is also Blue’s Clues: The Shape Detectives by Angela Santomero. In this fun book, children search for clues and shapes. Baby Einstein: Puzzling Shapes by Julie Aigner-Clark (ISBN-10: 0786808446) introduces toddler to 5 basic shapes. There are many ways to help children learn their shapes. To reinforce what a child has learned in books, you can also sew colorful beanbags in different shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, diamond, star, and heart. Sew 2 or more beanbags for each shape and have your toddler sort them. Also, you can cut out the shapes from construction paper, hang them on the wall, and review the shapes once a day with your child. There are also building blocks as well as a wide range of toys that teach children about shapes.
